UPMC EVENTS CENTER

"With a new venue of this quality and size, RMU cements its status as a university on the rise. Not only is it a significant regional asset, it's a facility worthy of the success of our athletics programs and reflective of our status as a nationally ranked university." - CHRIS HOWARD, PRESIDENT

The 140,000-square-foot UPMC Events Center will be the newest addition to RMU's Moon Township campus.
With the Peoples Court, the center will provide a competitive facility for the NCAA Division I Colonials basketball and volleyball programs and will add a modern convention and meeting space for the Pittsburgh West/Airport Corridor region.

A SHOWPLACE FOR THE COLONIALS

The 4,000-plus-seat Peoples Court is a cornerstone of the university's strategic plan and replaces a venue that is more than 30 years old. RMU's successful NCAA Division I athletics programs bring national media exposure, and an attractive modern facility will elevate the school's image. The best scholar-athletes now expect a level of amenities that the new arena will provide, including improved strength and conditioning facilities, locker rooms, and a full practice court.

A NEW HOME FOR MAJOR EVENTS

In addition to hosting home games for three NCAA Division I teams, the UPMC Events Center will offer the region an attractive new venue for public speakers, conventions, expos, concerts, graduation ceremonies, and family entertainment options. It also will host the university's annual convocation and commencement ceremonies, which have outgrown their current location.

CONFERENCE AND MEETING CENTER

With an additional 11,000 square feet of space attached to the main arena, the UPMC Events Center will provide the expanding campus community with new classroom and meeting space and will offer the Pittsburgh West/Airport Corridor conference facilities featuring catering, state-of-the-art technology, and customizable options for a variety of functions.

FITNESS CENTER FOR STUDENTS

In addition to the UPMC Events Center, RMU is building a new student recreation and fitness center on campus with two indoor intramural basketball courts, a fully-equipped weight room and cardio room, two rooms for Pilates and other exercise training, and men's and women's locker rooms, all for general student use. The recreation and fitness center also will house locker rooms for the men's and women's soccer teams and offices for soccer, softball, and intramural sports.

COMPETING AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL

"The new UPMC Events Center, together with the student recreation and fitness center, will literally be a 'game-changer' for the athletic department and the university as a whole. It will be a clear sign to the intercollegiate athletics world that RMU does indeed mean business." – Craig Coleman, athletic director

With the UPMC Events Center and Peoples Court, Robert Morris University demonstrates its commitment to enhancing the student and student-athlete experience. Athletics is a vital part of collegiate life and a way for alumni of all ages to stay connected with their alma mater. Within the last two years, all three Colonials teams have won the Northeast Conference title and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

With such accomplished programs and a growing Colonials fan base, the outdated facilities of the Sewall Center no longer meet expectations for training and workout facilities, locker rooms, practice space and offices, patron amenities, club level and private suites, media space and sightlines, and technology.

The center is the main part of a $50 million project that also adds a separate student recreation and fitness center at the North Athletic Complex on campus. That 2-story student recreation and fitness center will be completed by the start of the Fall 2017 semester, adding two indoor intramural basketball courts, a fully-equipped weight room and cardio room, two additional rooms for Pilates and other exercise training, plus men's and women's locker rooms, all for general student use.

As an institution of higher learning, Robert Morris University unquestionably places its clear priority on ensuring all academic programs have facilities of the highest caliber. Scaife Hall, formally dedicated last year, is the third new academic building opened on campus in the last five years. Two additional large academic buildings have undergone or are undergoing major renovations. New residence halls have been built and others upgraded, contributing to a period of rapid growth on campus. The UPMC Events Center is the latest step in providing students with a living and learning environment worthy of their expectations and of the university's growing reputation.

  • BASKETBALL

The Peoples Court will host approximately 40 NCAA Division I men’s and women’s basketball games every year, including several nationally televised contests each season.

  • VOLLEYBALL

The Colonials have won eight NEC tournament titles, most recently in 2015, and are tied with the men's basketball team for the school record. Besides home games, the program hosts several summer skills camps for young athletes.

  • EVENT VENUE

The arena will become a prime place for major events and expos in the Pittsburgh West region and airport corridor, with amenities including a club level, private suites, and hospitality spaces.

  • CONFERENCE SPACE

The university will now be able to accommodate the constantly growing number of outside requests for conference and meeting space equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

  • FAN STORE

Colonials fans will be able to purchase their favorite red, white, and blue Colonials gear in one place, from shirts to hats to replica jerseys and pennants.

  • COMMENCEMENT

Every May the UPMC Events Center will be filled with graduating students and their families for RMU's commencement exercises. Neighboring school districts also use RMU facilities for their graduation ceremonies.
