Spanou Named U20 European Championship MVP

Ohrid, Macedonia - Artemis Spanou (Rhodes, Greece / Greek National Team), a member of the Robert Morris University women's basketball team, earned Most Valuable Player at the U20 European Championship B Division after leading Greece to a third-place finish. After finishing pool-play with a 4-1 record, Greece lost a two-point game in the semifinals to Sweden before edging the Czech Republic, 60-59, to take Bronze in the 11-team event.

Spanou led the tournament in scoring by averaging 19.4 points per game. She also led all players with four double-doubles and was second in rebounding (9.8 per game). The Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year shot 44.3 percent overall and connected on 75.0 percent (42-56) from the foul line.

Spanou picked up four double-doubles in Greece's final five games, including each of the elimination round contests. She ended the event with 17 points and 10 boards in the win over the Czech Republic in the third place contest. She had 24 points and 12 rebounds in the team's semifinal loss against Sweden.

As a freshman at Robert Morris, Spanou became the team's first NEC Rookie of the Year and was a second-team All-NEC selection after averaging 13.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
