State Senate Candidates Set to Square Off at RMU

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

Robert Morris University will host a debate at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, between candidates in the special election for Pennsylvania’s 37th State Senatorial District.

The clash between Democrat Heather Arnet and Republican Guy Reschenthaler will take place at the RMU-TV studio in the Patrick Henry Center at RMU’s Moon Township campus. The RMU Political Science Club is sponsoring the debate, which will be moderated by Justin DePlato, assistant professor of political science and faculty advisor to the Political Science Club.

Moon Township is part of the 37th State Senatorial District, which includes southwestern Allegheny County and Peters Township in Washington County. The seat has been vacant since June, when Democrat Matt Smith resigned to become the president of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce.

Arnet, 41, lives in Mt. Lebanon and until recently was CEO of the Women and Girls Foundation, which she now serves as its chief strategy officer. Reschenthaler, 32, is an attorney and former district judge from Jefferson Hills. The election takes place Nov. 3.

Space is limited at the debate. Members of the news media who wish to cover it or broadcast it in its entirety should contact Jonathan Potts at 412-397-5291 or potts@rmu.edu. The debate will be live-streamed at youtube.com/rmusess
