-- The Department of Education is participating in Remake Learning Days in Pittsburgh next week by holding an Open House in the new RMU Teacher Education MakeSHOP on the third floor of the library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m Tuesday, May 10. Please stop by to find out what a MakeSHOP is and how the Maker Movement is changing education. The digital age and global economy require the kind of critical-thinking skills and creativity that kids can’t get from just listening to a lecture. They need to tinker. They need to experiment and problem-solve alongside their peers. Educators and organizations here have long worked to develop a network of rich learning opportunities and resources for the region’s young people. That effort is on display May 9-15, when you can experience some of the remarkable learning that happens year-round in all corners of our community during Remake Learning Days. Hundreds of local organizations will throw open their doors for a marathon celebration of learning innovation. Throughout the week, kids, teens, parents, and educators can choose from more than 250 events across southwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia. A full calendar of events can be found at http://remakelearningdays.org/events/
