RMU Student Organizes “What’s On Your Plate” Health and Wellness Expo

Friday, September 5, 2014

Robert Morris University will host the “What’s On Your Plate?” Healthy Foods and Wellness Expo at RMU’s Moon Township campus Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014. This free event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Sewall Center Arena.

The event is hosted by the RMU Office of Student and Civic Engagement and RMU junior Bobby Catley. In 2013, Catley, a Hopewell High School graduate, won the Pittsburgh Penguins Humanitarian Award and the Jefferson Awards for Public Service. He previously organized a health expo for his high school.

“I believe that there is something you can do every day that makes a difference in the lives of others. You can’t have a large scale community outreach event every day of the week, but you can do something small as supporting a local veteran-owned business or even helping someone load groceries into their car,” said Catley. “That small and thought full action makes a difference in more ways than imaginable.”

Event highlights include: live cooking demonstrations, free health screenings, live fitness demonstrations, free food and product samples, and also the chance to win door prizes. Those attending the health and wellness expo can visit one of 75 featured exhibitors including Giant Eagle Market District; Edible Arrangements; Brueggers Bagels; Walgreens; Tyler Mountain Water; Heritage Valley Health System; the RMU School of Nursing and Health Sciences; and The Pittsburgh Marathon to name a few.

The event is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Fittsburgh and co-hosted by Campus Recreation. Pittsburgh Penguin mascot Iceburgh will be there taking pictures with attendees and Chris Fennimore of WQED-TV will be doing live cooking demonstrations.
