-- RMU is now partnering with the University of Akron’s School of Law for students to have the opportunity to earn law degree faster with the joint 3+3 Bachelor’s/Law Accelerated Degree Programs. The 3+3 program allows students to complete both bachelors and law degree in six years instead of the typical seven. Credits from the first year of law school are counted towards a bachelor’s of science in business administration degree.

-- The best graduating senior in each of 26 majors, as chosen by their faculty, were recognized at the Presidential Undergraduate Awards Dinner on May 4. The 14 women and 12 men receiving the award in 2016 are a mix of traditional and online students, including three student athletes and two veterans of the Marines and Coast Guard. -- Robert Morris University will send two students to the Democratic National Convention this July in Philadelphia as part of an intensive professional experiential learning program offered by the Washington Center. Junior communication and political science major Megan DeArmit and junior economics major Stanley Marciniak will learn about the political process from select faculty from institutions across the nation, and then participate in a 40-hour field experience based on their career interests. Meanwhile, associate professor of communication Anthony Moretti, director of the RMU Center for Innovative Teaching and Directed Engaged Learning, will attend the Republican National Convention as a Washington Center faculty leader, participating for the third consecutive presidential election year. Moretti was a faculty leader in 2008, when he guided students through the academic week, then led small group discussions with eight to 12 students. In 2012, Moretti was involved in the leadership and communication programs that took students to both the Democratic and Republican conventions. 

-- RMU business students have created RMU Innovate, a three-day pre-orientation program hosted by Enactus RMU, a student organization committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better world. This intensive camp is designed to engage incoming freshmen and transfer students in entrepreneurship. It is open to new students of all majors who think outside the box, are looking for a challenge, and have a drive to create. -- Tony Kerzmann, associate professor of mechanical engineering, is a recipient of an Energy Leadership Award from the Pittsburgh Business Times. He and Tony Sanchez from the University of Pittsburgh created the Constellation Energy Inventor Labs. The labs are designed as outreach programs for local K-12 students to be exposed to energy technology and engineering at early ages and become aware of energy issues.

-- Anthony Moretti published  this article in Phi Kappa Phi Forum  about his ongoing research into media coverage of the Olympics and the IOC's efforts to wring every last dollar from the games. Moretti's doctoral dissertation examined news media coverage of American and Soviet Olympians between 1948 and 1988. He will soon be writing regularly for Phi Kappa Phi Forum.
