-- On Saturday, November 5 at 9 a.m. the Robert Morris Sport Management Association will be hosting The 11th Annual Susan K. Hofacre 5K Race. This race is in remembrance of the late Susan Hofacre, former RMU atheltics director, and it benefits the Susan Hofacre Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Sport Management Association. The deadline for early registration is today, October 28 or $20 the day of the race. Students can show their Freedom Card to register for only $10. Students who don't run can earn SET credit by volunteering to help out. Please contact John Clark at for more information. 

-- RMU once again has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Rollthe highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement. Honorees are chosen based on a series of factors including the scope and innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service, and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses.

-- You’re invited to the Celebration of RMU Online Education event! The RMU Online brand campaign kickoff event is from 3-5 p.m. on November 1 in the Sewall Center International Suite, where you’ll learn about everything going on at RMU Online. Last month began a yearlong brand campaign to grow visibility and enhance the reputation of Robert Morris University in the highly competitive market for students who wish to pursue a degree online. This kickoff event is a chance for you to meet your colleagues, online students and alumni behind this initiative and learn about how you can be a part of this campaign.

Everyone attending receives a small prize, but to be eligible for a free iPad you must RSVP before October 28 (today) and be present at the event at the time of the drawings! 


-- La Mia Strada (My Road), directed by Michael DiLauro, director of the Academic Media Center, has been selected for the Salerno, Italy, film festival on November 19.

-- Maria Kalevitch, dean of the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science, is now serving on the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden Board of Directors. 

-- Leslie Koren, visiting assitant professor of media arts, is the producer of the comedic web series Gunner Jackson, which has been featured at the 18th Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham, Ala., and is the official selection at the Adirondack Film Festival in New York and at the 12th Annual Rivers Edge Film Festival, Kentucky.

-- Jon Radermacher, associate dean of the School of Communications and Information Systems and associate professor of media arts, recently presented Challenges and Guidance in Preserving the Unrestored Production Motorcycle and Racing Motorcycle at the Driving History: Putting Preservation on the Road conference in Allentown, Pa. The conference, which was the first-known academic conference of its kind in North America, was presented by the College of Charleston and the Historic Vehicle Association. Radermacher is president of the board of directors of the Antique Motorcycle Foundation and a collector of vintage motorcycles.


-- The Center for Global Engagement, in collaboration with the Media Arts Gallery, is excited to announce the first International Show, a juried exhibition featuring artwork created by RMU students while studying abroad and by international students while studying in the U.S. The show is free and open to the public.

Opening Reception: Thursday, November 3 from 4:45 to 7 p.m.

There will also be the opportunity for members of the RMU community to share their international experiences. The wall in the Wheatley Atrium will be available for students, faculty, and staff to hang their photos or other international mementos to display during the exhibition.

-- You are cordially invited to the fifth RMU Roundtable of the year. Petros Malakyan, head of the Department of Organizational Leadership, will be presenting "Engaging in Organizational Leadership is Everybody's Business."  It will be held Monday , November 7, at noon in Sewall 305.  

Organizations are an inescapable part of social life. Nearly every student graduating from a college or a university finds herself or himself working in an organization. Thus, it is essential for citizen of today’s globalized world to study how human relationships work in organizations in order to succeed in career and life. It is also important to understand that leadership is not for privileged people and followership for the unprivileged ones. Malakyan will share his views on leadership and followership to argue that the process of leading and following in organizations is everybody’s business.

The RMU Roundtable Series is sponsored by the University Honors Program, and is an occasional forum in which faculty can present on their research and topics of interest in an informal setting to students, faculty, and staff.

-- Annette Foerster, the Fall 2016 Rooney International Visiting Scholar, will give another public lecture this fall, "German Politics in Times of Crisis" on Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the University Library in Patrick Henry Center. Terrorists attacks, the financial crisis, Brexit, the refugee crisis - German politics are confronted with Herculean tasks that challenge the political and social order of the republic, giving rise to populist movements. The presentation explores and comments on current developments within German politics.
