-- The winners of the President’s Distinguished Achievement Awards for 2015-16 have been recognized in three areas: teaching, scholarship, and service. Each year, faculty committees in each of the three areas make recommendations to the Robert Morris University President, who makes the final selection. The awards given this year are as follows:

Teaching - J. Brian O’Roark, university professor in the School of Business

Scholarship - Denise R. Ramponi, associate professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences

Service - Daria Crawley, associate professor of Management in the School of Business.

-- A team of four RMU education faculty received a grant of $39,999 to create a schoolwide evaluation plan for the Hill House Passport Academy Charter School. The tuition-free Pittsburgh public charter school is for students under 21 who haven't yet finished their high school diploma.

-- Almost 30 band members from Robert Morris University, Sacred Heart University, and Saint Francis University, joined forces in a special first-ever performance at Walt Disney World.  The bands were representing  the Northeast Conference (NEC),  in which each of the colleges' athletic programs compete.

“As NEC band directors, we look for opportunities to support each other,  and to provide great musical experiences for our students. This special collaborative opportunity not only  showcased our band members, but also shared the Northeast Conference name with a new audience," said Betsy Charles,  director of bands at Robert Morris University. The band performed at the Waterside Stage in Disney Springs, one of the premier performance venues of its kind in the world.
