-- Are we on the cusp of a second Cold War? How is Putin governing Russia? Dr. Soren Fanning will explore these questions during the first RMU Roundtable of the spring semester: "From Russia with Love: A Look Inside Putin's Russia." The origins of Putin's Russia from the remains of the Soviet Union, the challenges facing the Russian Federation, and the potential future of US-Russian relations will also be explored. All are invited, and it will be held Tuesday, February 14, at 12:30pm in Hale 301

The RMU Roundtable Series is sponsored by the University Honors Program, and is an occasional forum in which faculty can present on their research and topics of interest in an informal setting to students, faculty, and staff.


PERSONAL MENTION

-- Yasmin S. Purohit, RMU chief diversity and inclusion officer, is a recipient of the 2017 INSIGHT Into Diversity Giving Back Award for administrators. The national award honors university administrators who show commitment to diversity and outstanding social responsibility throughout their campus and community. Purohit  will be recognized in the April issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity and inclusion magazine and website in higher education, with a readership of nearly 300,000.

-- Leslie Koren, a media arts professor, is also a filmmaker and producer for the comedic, fiction Web Series, Gunner Jackson. Last fall it began screening across the US. The first episode of the show premiered at the 18th Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham, Alabama and was part of the official selection at the Adirondack Film Festival, NY and at the 12th Annual Rivers Edge Film Festival, Kentucky. Gunner Jackson has most recently been accepted to the Oscar qualifying Cleveland International Film Festival this spring.

-- The Center for Global Engagement presents the Faculty and Staff Workshop: Engaging and Supporting International Students

The Workshop will introduce immigration basics for working with RMU's international student population, the challenges international students face when studying in the US, a cultural spot light on Saudi Arabia, and strategies to support international students in class and on campus. There are two sessions:

HOBEY BAKER AWARD NOMINEES...RMU forwards Brady Ferguson and Daniel Leavens are among the 66 players nationwide who have been nominated for college hockey's top award.
