-- The Counseling Center has been accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS), the accreditation association for university and college counseling centers. The center was evaluated for its compliance with the IACS Standards, the highest standards available for campus counseling centers, and was found to offer outstanding professional services to its clientele. The center offers crisis management, individual therapy, group counseling, and psychiatric medication management to enrolled students.
-- RMU Sentry Media won first place in the website category in the Pennsylvania News Media Association's 2018 Keystone Student Press Awards competition (Division II). This award is given to the entire staff. Additionally, RMU student Tori Flick placed second in the cartoon/graphic illustration category for her works titled, "Eating Disorders" and "10 or More Reasons To Follow RMU Sentry Media." Awardees will be honored at the America East Media Business & Technology Conference on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, in Hershey, Pa.
-- Sarah MacDonald, manager of SEMS Research & Outreach Center, has been selected as a 2018 Pennsylvania Statewide Afterschool/Youth Development Network (PSAYDN) STEM Ambassador. This opportunity is a strategic way for MacDonald to achieve state STEM/workforce policy goals. Ambassadors advance policy goals through outreach, education, targeted relationships with policymakers and building a coalition of local and regional support. STEM Ambassadors are leaders within their organizations, interested and committed to sharing their experiences and content knowledge with influential stakeholders.
-- Pittsburgh Business Times has selected President Chris Howard as a winner of the 2018 Outstanding CEO and Top Executive Award presented by Fox Rothschild. The third annual event honors Western Pennsylvania's outstanding business leaders for achievements within their companies and in the community. President Howard will be honored at an awards ceremony in March at the Westin Convention Center.
-- Heather Franz, associate director of corporate and foundation relations, was one of 17 listed in The Inline's Who's Next: Philanthropy. She, among the others listed, is recognized for being invested in making Pittsburgh a better place. For Heather, fundraising is more than a job — it’s a passion. “There's something invigorating about being the champion of a cause and seeing it come to life through growing support,” she says. She works with sponsorship, grant writing and government affairs on university-wide projects.
-- This Presidents Day, our very own President Chris Howard will be narrating Aaron Copeland's Lincoln Portrait at 7 p.m. at Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall. Written in the dark days of WWII, this concert is an inspiring story that is now regular tradition at the Carnegie Library. -- The annual Black History Month Luncheon takes place at noon Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the Westinghouse Room in Yorktown Hall. Speaking will be Sara Nyobe, the Rooney International Visiting Scholar for the spring semester. Cost is $10 for faculty and staff and free for students. RSVP by Monday, Feb. 26.

-- The Enrollment Management Division is offering a professional development opportunity for RMU staff members to learn more about college affordability. Vice President Wendy Beckemeyer will present the modules in the College Affordability Academy®. The first session, which will cover Trends in Student Aid, How RMU Measures Up, and Loan Entrance Counseling, and is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21 from 10:00 – 12:00. Session 2 will be held on April 4 from 10:00 – 12:00, Session 3 will be held on April 11from 10:00 – 12:00 and the Capstone Presentation and Luncheon will take place on April 26 from 12:00 – 2:00. All meetings will take place in Franklin 204, and the Capstone Presentation and Luncheon will take place in Franklin 203.
