-- Thanks to the School of Education and Social Sciences, RMU has become part of the first 100 institutions to sign onto Operation Educate the Educators, an effort started by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and the Military Children Education Coalition to help educate pre-K-12 teachers and student teachers who work with children of military personnel. This initiative began in April 2011 when Joining Forces, a federal initiative to help support military families, wanted to better equip children who are directly affected by one or both of their parents serving in the military. RMU began its participation with Operation Educate the Educators this fall. Read more about RMU's participation in Operate Educate the Educators.

-- The School of Nursing and Health Sciences is partnering with four Pittsburgh-area health care organizations in a federally-funded initiative to help reduce preventable hospital admissions among long-stay nursing home residents. The regional effort is one of seven nationwide that received a grant from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services aimed at improving care at nursing homes and reducing preventable hospitalizations. Leading the initiative locally is UPMC Community Provider Services. Heritage Valley Health System, Excela Health, and the Jewish Healthcare Foundation are also partners. These organizations will work with 16 nursing homes in Western Pennsylvania to keep residents from returning to the hospital unnecessarily. Read more about this innovative health care partnership.
