The Polytechnic University of Nicaragua (Universidad Politecnica de Nicaragua, UPOLI) is a university located in Managua, Nicaragua. It was founded in 1967.
The university is divided into six (6) Schools: School of Administration, Commerce and Finance; School of Law; School of Design; School of Nursing; School of
Engineering; and Music Conservatory.
Robert Morris University signed a memorandum of understanding with Universidad Politechnica de Nicaragua (UPOLI) formalizing and expanding the collaboration
between the two institutions on June 26, 2007. The agreement was specifically between the two institution’s Nursing Schools. Since 2006 RMU faculty
and students have made several trips to Nicaragua under the coordination of Professor of Nursing Carl Ross, Ph.D.
Through the memorandum of understanding, the two institutions agreed to "develop joint research, academic, extension and cultural activities of
mutual interest," including the promotion and coordination of cooperative actions, the development of graduate and post-graduate teaching programs,
and the expansion of the student exchange program.
The three-year agreement also calls for the creation of a collaborative internship program for teachers and the participation of both institutions in
community projects in the Anexo Villa Libertad Barrio, a settlement on the southeastern perimeter of Managua where UPOLI faculty and students have assisted
with health promotion for more than 15 years. RMU programs in Nicaragua usually run between 9 and 12 days.
