MATH6020 - Elementary Math Tch Ldshp II
Summer 2016
The purpose of this course is to continue to support the building of learning communities within local school districts using a variety of research based tools including:
1. Developing Mathematical Ideas (DMI) a curriculum designed to help teachers think through the major ideas of K-6 mathematics beyond arithmetic and examine how children develop these ideas.
2. The THinking Through a Lesson Protocol (TTAL) which is a tool for planning and evaluating lessons and their effectiveness.
3. The Regional K-12 Mathematics Curriculum Framework which organizes the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Mathematics to focus attention on a few "big ideas" of mathematics at each grade level.
This course is intended for elementary certified teachers and will meet for five full days and five half days.
