HSAM6010 - Health Policy Analysis
Summer 2013 What is the effect of gun control legislation on protecting the health of the public? How effective are air bags in cars? What sorts of policies promote access to care for people with little or no health insurance? How have Medicare HMOs affected beneficiaries' utilization of health services? These are the sorts of questions we want you to be able identify and evaluate health policies as a result of having taken this course. This course is designed to provide students the with necessary concepts, facts, and analytical skills to allow for a full understanding of the complicated issues found inherent to specific health care and public health policies. Descriptions of types of analyses and procedural application techniques provide the student with the capability to analyze the specific health policy issues of today and to be prepared for the future. 3 Credits |

HSAM6120 - Eth/Legal Issues In Healthcare
Summer 2013 This course presents an overview of the ethical and legal issues that impact on the delivery of health services. The role of morality in the department of ethical theory, the basic principles of bioethics, and the application of bioethical principles to patient care and service will be discussed. There will be instruction in the U.S. Legal system and in tort law, with particular problems faced by health care provides and administrators. The focus will be on problem solving using the legal and ethical theories and principles learned. 3 Credits |

Summer 2013 This course explores the most current evidence surrounding simulation education, models for scenario design, standards for best practice, and elements related to debriefing, evaluation, and research. Participants will engage in reading assignments, audio visual presentations, interactive learning components, and interactive educational leadership activities. 3 Credits |

HSAM6400 - Organiz Leadshp/Mgmt Conc Sim
Summer 2013 This course incorporates information related to strategic planning, budgeting, creating a mission/vision, organizational change theory, emotional intelligence, generating buy-in from colleagues and administrators, research funding priorities, and effective management techniques. Participants will engage in reading assignments, interactive learning components and concepts related to leading and managing a successful simulation program, either in the academic or practice setting. 3 Credits |

HSAM6600 - Managing Health Organizations
Summer 2013 This course allows the student to pursue an in-depth study of health care institutions/organizations, their structure, types of care provided, operationalstrategy, and enviornment. A major emphasis will be on understanding and analyzing the roles and functions of managing health services organizations within the context of the operational enviornment and its impact. The Management Model for HSOs will serve as the contextual model for the course. Expert guest speakers will serve to introduce the different types of institutions/organizations and Management Model for HSOs as the basis for analysis and discussion. 3 Credits |

HSAM7200 - Innovative Trnds Hlth Care Sim
Summer 2013 After completing the two prerequisite courses (Leadership in Simulation Facilitation and Instruction and Organizational Leadership and Management Concepts in Simulation), students will explore innovative trends in health care and examine concepts from the IOM report, QSEN Competencies, TeamSTEPPS ? team training concepts and licensure regulations. Participants will complete a final project that will incorporate content from all three courses. 3 Credits |
