| Studies lead to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Social Science degree.
Program Overview
The social science degree program at Robert Morris University
develops reasoning, mathematical and communications skills and
knowledge of the social sciences. Graduates qualify for entry-level
positions in social and welfare occupations. This program also
prepares students for positions in areas that require a strong social
science background, including management, sales, marketing or
human resources, or for graduate study in sociology, economics,
law, history, political science, psychology and other related areas. |
|
In addition to reasoning, mathematical and communications skills,
graduates will be able to demonstrate:
- A patient, caring attitude and a sense of responsibility in a professional situation;
- An understanding of the social sciences and an ability to
integrate this understanding with their intellectual, social,
personal and professional growth; and
- An ability to deal with human relationships and personal
development in the context of the society in which they exist.
Graduates with a B.A. degree are likely to seek positions that
require writing, listening and presentation skills, such as
interviewers, non-licensed counselors in social services agencies
and training and development specialists. The B.A. also provides
the option of studying secondary education, which allows students
to teach social studies in grades 7-12.
Curriculum Requirements
The 126-credit hour curriculum leads to a B.A. degree. Students
completing at least five courses in business and/or quantitative
and natural sciences as liberal arts or open electives will receive
a B.S. degree. The program has three components:
- Robert Morris University Core - 39 credits
These are the traditional liberal arts requirements of the
University. Studies in humanities and social, behavioral,
natural and quantitative sciences are included.
- Field Concentration/Social Science Core - 72 credits
Includes courses in anthropology, economics, history, political
science, psychology, sociology and statistics, as well as a social
science practicum and a social science seminar.
