| Colonials Shutout At Lake Superior State |
| Lake Superior State opened up a 1-0 game with two third period power-play goals en route to a 3-0 over the Robert Morris University men’s hockey team at Taffy Abel Arena in Sault Ste. Marie on Friday night. The Lakers finished the game 2-7 on the power play while the Colonials, who entered the game second in the nation with the man-advantage, failed to score on five chances.
Robert Morris drops their second consecutive after reaching the .500 mark and are now 4-6-1 on the year. Lake Superior improves to 5-5-3 overall. Barnabas Birkeland quickly put the host Lakers ahead, chipping a puck over Colonials sophomore goaltender Christian Boucher (Orleans, Ontario / Cumberland Grads) just 1:36 into the game. A period of 49:51 of scoreless hockey followed before Lake Superior struck with back-to-back power-play goals. Steve McJannet tallied his first of the season at 11:27 of the third period on assists from Jason Miller and Derek Smith. Dan Eves put the game out of reach with his fourth goal of the year with help from Josh Sim and Jon Booras. Robert Morris registered just 14 shots on goal as Jeff Jakaitis earned his fifth career shutout in net for Lake Superior. Boucher finished the game with 30 saves. These two teams meet again on Saturday night in a 7:05 p.m. start at Taffy Abel Arena. |
