| RMU Drops Overtime Decision At Lake Superior |
| Dominic Osman scored 3:40 into overtime on Saturday night to lift Lake Superior State over Robert Morris University, 4-3, in NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey game at Taffy Abel Arena. The Colonials, after winning back-to-back games for the first time, have now dropped three straight and are 4-7-1 in their second year.
Osman finished the game with the game-winning overtime goal and an assist as the Lakers improve to 6-5-3 overall. After a scoreless first period, sophomore Sean Berkstresser (Apollo, Pa. / Pittsburgh Forge) gave the Colonials a 1-0 lead at 1:27 of the second period by scoring an unassisted power-play goal. Derek Smith tied the game later in the period with help from Dan Eves and Jon Booras. The teams continued trading goals in the third period, this time with the Lakers scoring first. Steve McJannett scored the team’s second power-play goal 2:04 into the third period, giving LSSU a 2-1 lead. Sophomore Tom Biondich (International Falls, Wisc. / Wichita Falls Rustlers) knotted the game with his second short-handed goal of the year at 13:02 with help from classmate Logan Bittle (Peoria, Ill. / Soo Indians). With 3:04 left in regulation, Lake Superior went back on top, 3-2, as Booras scored his first of the season. Sophomore Jace Buzek (Greensburg, Pa. / Tri-City Storm) put the game into overtime with his second goal of the year and just 1:25 left on the clock. Sophomores Jeff Gilbert (Barrie, Ontario / Aurora Tigers) and Brett Hopfe (Didsbury, Alberta / Olds Grizzlys) had the assists. Junior Joe Tuset (Eagan, Minn. / Northern Michigan University) made 32 saves in his first career start for Robert Morris. Vince Wheeler had 23 saves for Lake Superior, who held a 36-26 margin in shots on goal. The Colonials continue their six-game, 47-day road trip on December 9-10, as they travel to Niagara University for a pair of College Hockey America games. |
