| Men’s Hockey Swept At St. Cloud State, 6-2 |
| The Robert Morris University men’s hockey team will head into the Christmas break after being swept at St. Cloud State following a 6-2 loss on Sunday and a 7-0 loss Saturday night. The Colonials enter the break with a 4-11-1 mark overall, having dropped their last seven decisions after getting to .500 at 4-4-1 on November 18.
Sunday night, Robert Morris fell behind as the Huskie’s Gary Houseman scored a power-play goal at 9:22 and Marty Mjelleli scored an even-strength marker just 38 seconds later at the 10:00 mark. Sophomore Jace Buzek (Greensburg, Pa. / Tri-City Storm) snapped a 203:44 scoreless streak for RMU with his third goal of the season with 1:21 left in the first stanza. Sophomore Doug Conley (Amherst, N.Y. / Tri-City Storm) picked up his team-leading 13th assist on the goal. St. Cloud, however, found the back of net again before the end of the period as Casey Borer scored his first career goal to make it 3-1 after 20 minutes. Joe Jensen added a second period goal while Mjelleli and Josh Singer tacked on third period goals to stretch the margin to 6-1. Junior Aaron Clarke (Peterborough, Ontario / Niagara University), who was playing in his first game after transferring to RMU from Niagara, picked up his first goal as a Colonial as time expired in the third period. His goal at the 20:00 mark of the third came on assists by sophomores Chris Kaufman (Gig Harbor, Wash. / Helena Bighorns) and Eric Trax (Finleyville, Pa. / Lone Star Cavalry). The assist was Trax first career point. The Colonials were outshot 45-31 as sophomore Christian Boucher (Orleans, Ontario / Cumberland Grads) turned away 39 shots. Jason Montgomery earned the win with 29 saves for the Huskies. St. Cloud went 2-6 on the power play while Robert Morris failed to convert on three chances and have now scored just once in their last 37 power-play opportunities. The Colonials will take 18-days off before ending their six-game, 47-day road trip by hosting College Hockey America rival Bemidji State Friday and Saturday, January 6-7, in a pair of 7:35 p.m. games at the RMU Island Sports Center. |
