ORGL2100-D Global Perspectives (Spring 2014)

Course Details

Section "D" of this course is offered for students traveling to Morocco, Spain and England from May 5th to May 22nd. The course is subtitled "Intersecting and Clashing Symbols, Rituals, and Cultures: Islam, Judaism and Christianity." Students will learn about the role of organizations and leaders in the 3 main Western religions, the similarities and differences in cultures, and the influence of their histories which have had significant influence on the modern world. There are regularly scheduled class meeting times once a week for 2 hours as well as online interaction and assignments during the 8 week course, written assignments while on the trip, and one due upon return. Course Description

Everyone is different and everyone is the same on some levels. Students will examine various social constructions of diversity, and learn what drives people toward an "Us" and "Them" approach to the world. The course focuses on dimensions of diversity, as well as the human desire for status and significance, to learn how people can work productively with others, opening themselves to understanding individual, group, and organizational identities and ways of accomplishing goals.
