Course Description

This course provides the student with an overview of the role and functions of the practicing engineer and the tools & technology they use through a combination of lecture and laboratory sessions. Students will be introduced to the history of engineering and the engineering disciplines/sub-disciplines (with additional emphasis on the engineering disciplines at RMU). Topics on problem solving, engineering design, technical communication, teamwork, and engineering ethics will be discussed in detail. Students will also be exposed to the engineering tools and technology available at RMU. Wherever applicable, students? theoretical understanding of engineering subject matter will be strengthened through hands-on exercises. Miscellaneous topics will educate students on what four years of engineering education involves.
