Course Description

This course exposes students to various lab and field methods used to monitor the aqueous environment. Topics include: Water sampling, major constituents (solids, dissolved oxygen and oxygen demand, acidity and alkalinity, hardness, and conductivity), common ions (via UV/VIS spectroscopy, ion chromatography and ion-selective electrodes), and trace pollutants (metals and organics). Students collect and analyze samples from the field using portable sampling devices and instrumentation.

Prerequisite: CHEM3500
