Course Description

This course is the first of a three-course sequence in mathematical and applied statistics. Topics include the basic statistical sampling distributions (normal, gamma, student-t, chi-squared and F), point and interval estimation of mean, variance, and proportion parameters (including properties such as bias, consistency, and efficiency for point estimators), hypothesis testing, and related statistical testing. This course is designed to satisfy the VEE (verification by educational experience) requirement of the Society of Actuaries in Mathematical Statistics. PREREQUISITES: STAT 3140 and STAT 3150 or permission of the instructor
