Provides the student with an understanding of how decision support systems using the capabilities of the computer can be combined with human intelligence to make better decisions. The course focuses on how information is collected, stored, organized, and managed to assist persons at all organizational levels make more effective decisions. Problem solving and decision-making are examined within the framework of information systems that use databases and spreadsheets as tools that assist with the processes. Specifically, students use Microsoft Excel to address such topics as "what-if" scenarios, sensitivity analysis, plotting and graphic displays. Microsoft Access is also used to gain experience in designing and creating effective databases, developing effective data interfaces, creating queries, and generating meaningful business reports. 3 credits |
