This is an advanced course in meteorology and reviews the various types of anthropogenic pollutants in the atmosphere and their chemical and physical behavior in it. Properties of various gaseous, particulate and aerosol pollutants are examined. Affects of atmospheric pollutants on the biosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere as well as on humankind and its various artifacts are discussed. Methods by which pollutants diffuse and mix through the atmosphere are examined. Techniques to reduce and/or control anthropogenic pollution from fixed and mobile sources as well as from point and non-point sources are reviewed. Course includes a laboratory/recitation period which includes hands-on demonstrations of topics reviewed in lecture and experimentation utilizing the analytical techniques and equipment reviewed in the course.
