This course provides an orientation to the professional practice and science of clinical psychology. History, major theoretical orientations, and scientific underpinnings of clinical psychology are explored as well as current developments in practice and research. Topics include the continued development of clinical psychology as a separate profession, clinically-related research, treatment efficacy, specialized training, and orientations to the major activities of clinical psychologists: psychotherapy, assessment, and clinical research. Ethical principles for psychologists are strongly emphasized.
