This introductory course enables students to explore photography as a medium of visual communication and creative expression. Through lectures, discussions, demonstrations of techniques, and hands-on-experience, students learn how to make black-and-white prints and color slides, using 35mm cameras and traditional silver-based darkroom facilities. The continued importance of the history and relevance of these techniques in the context of the digital age is addressed. Students are required to provide their own 35mm single-lens reflex (SLR) camera with manual settings for this course. Advice on this purchase can be sought in advance from the Academic Media Center, Patrick Henry. |
