Course Description

This course provides teacher candidates with an understanding of how to apply technology for instructional planning and delivering, and how to have students use technology to enhance learning. Teacher candidates must demonstrate knowledge of current and emerging classroom technologies, together with an understanding of societal, economic, ethical, and legal issues related technology in education. The candidate will practice applying technology for different instructional philosophies, evaluating software tools to enhance instruction, investigating technology for special needs students, and locating instructional and administrative software tools available on the web. Hands-on skill development in an educational context is critical and will include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, concept mapping, and presentation software; use of the Internet and Web 2.0 tools, multimedia software, and digital media; and the use of typical classroom hardware. Teacher candidates will also establish a working framework for the development of an electronic portfolio.
