Course Details

Culture and Couture is designed to expose students to intercultural communication theory through the context of the fashion industry in Italy. The domestic classroom experience will focus on intercultural communication theory, intercultural communication competence and a comparative analysis of US to Italian cultural characteristics such as family, economic and political systems, technology, family, religion. The components of effective fashion design, branding and marketing will be explored using Italian designers and custom made wardrobing. We will link elements of design to fashion, class standing and rites and rituals of the Italian culture. Students who register for the course are required to attend class and go on the 2017 study abroad program to Italy May 8-May 20, 2017. In addition to tuition, there will be study abroad costs for airfare, housing, etc. If you are interested in taking this course, contact the Center for Global Engagement at 412-397-6893. Section will be taught totally online with no scheduled class meetings. Students must arrange for daily access to a computer and the Internet prior to the start of classes. Robert Morris labs are to be used only as a backup in special situations and may not be relied upon for extended periods of time. In addition to the Internet link, online classes have a large emphasis on email. All messages from the instructor and other information regarding online classes, including user ids, passwords, and login instructions will be sent to your Robert Morris University email account.
