Course Description

The Transitioning from College to Career course is designed to help students prepare for a professional career after graduation. The course covers how to navigate: " the search process for internships and full-time positions " graduate school application process " workplace success strategies and, " financial literacy tools The course provides students with skills, resources and information to execute a successful post-graduation plan. The course is also designed to introduce search strategies and to guide students through the examination of their career goals, job search communication tools, and the employment market. Understanding the job search process is empowering; skills learned in this course can be valuable throughout a student's professional life. Students also explore the potential benefits of pursuing an advanced degree and the impact it may have on their career goals. The course provides an overview of the graduate school application process including timelines, entrance examinations, and required documents. A final goal of the course is to provide students with information and resources to help them make wise decisions as they embark on their professional career. The importance of professional associations, ethics and continued professional development is stressed. The course also presents students with valuable tips and useful tools to make good financial decisions. These include but are not limited to: tips on banking, money management, retirement and savings plans.
