This course satisfies part of the Communication Skills graduation requirement. This is a 7-week course with a clinical component. Students who schedule NURS4025 must also schedule a clinical section NURS4026; clinical is every Tuesday with additional required outpatient and simulation on Thursday.This section is Communication Skills intensive. Communication Skills I-V must be completed before taking this course.

Course Description
TThis course focuses on the nursing care of clients with mental health problems. Classroom learning provides an introduction to developmental, psychological, and biological theories in order to enhance understanding regarding the various etiologies of mental illness. Major psychiatric illnesses that are seen throughout the lifespan as well as treatment options available are addressed. In the clinical setting, students apply classroom knowledge utilizing the nursing process through assessment, identification of nursing diagnoses, as well as implementation of a plan of care to promote optimal functioning of the client with mental illness. (3 lecture, 2 lab)
Prerequisites: CSCM1030 (COSK2220) or CSHR1030 (COSK2225), NURS3015, NURS3020, and NURS3030
