Getting into medical school is tough, but RMU's pre-medicine offering gives you an edge. We've partnered with prestigious medical institutions to give qualified students automatic admission into medical school upon their graduation from Robert Morris, and the kind of practical training that will allow them to become an accomplished physician.
RMU's pre-med curriculum is available as a concentration within the bachelor of arts in environmental science degree program or within the bachelor of science in biology degree program, since they share many of the same required courses. Students in the pre-med program can also focus on chiropractic medicine, osteopathic medicine, veterinary medicine, or dentistry.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics: "Physicians and surgeons held about 661,400 jobs in 2008; approximately 12 percent were self-employed. About 53 percent of wage–and-salary physicians and surgeons worked in offices of physicians, and 19 percent were employed by hospitals. Others practiced in federal, state, and local governments, educational services, and outpatient care centers...
Earnings of physicians and surgeons are among the highest of any occupation. According to the Medical Group Management Association's Physician Compensation and Production Survey, median total compensation for physicians varied by their type of practice. In 2008, physicians practicing primary care had total median annual compensation of $186,044, and physicians practicing in medical specialties earned total median annual compensation of $339,738.
Self-employed physicians—those who own or are part owners of their medical practice—generally have higher median incomes than salaried physicians. Earnings vary according to number of years in practice, geographic region, hours worked, skill, personality, and professional reputation. Self-employed physicians and surgeons must provide for their own health insurance and retirement."

RMU's articulation agreements provide qualified students automatic admission into medical school upon graduation from Robert Morris.
Drexel University College of Medicine/Alleghey General Hospital Scholars-Articulation Program
In this 4+4 agreement, you'll complete four years of undergraduate study and earn a bachelor's degree from RMU before attending Drexel for four years of medical school. While at RMU, you'll complete an 8-credit clinical research course as a pre-professional internship at AGH, one of the region's most esteemed hospitals. As an undergraduate, you'll have unprecedented exposure to the medical field at AGH, where you'll shadow doctors as they treat patients. After graduation, you'll be admitted to Drexel University College of Medicine through a guaranteed acceptance, as long as you achieve the prerequisite GPA at RMU and MCAT score. You will not be required to go through the usual medical school application process.
During your third and fourth years at Drexel, you’ll return to AGH for at least one required third-year clerkship and one fourth-year rotation. In addition, you may complete even more clinical rotations at AGH, which organizes and conducts a clinical educational research experience for students after their third year at Drexel. This eight-week, eight-credit course, which takes place from mid-May to mid-July, totals 120 hours and is designed to enhance the student's education in generalist medical specialties.
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Linkage Program
If you're looking to pursue a career in osteopathic medicine, RMU offers the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Linkage Program.
The program, which reserves 10 places for RMU students each year, is a 4+4 linkage agreement, meaning you'll complete four years of undergraduate study and receive a bachelor's degree from RMU before attending LECOM in Erie, Pa., for four years of medical school.
Once you receive your bachelor's degree, you'll enter LECOM's Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree program. This unique program allows you to choose from three student-centered learning pathways: traditional lecture-discussion courses; small-group, problem-based learning; and independent study based on self-directed learning modules.
New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) Linkage Program
For students interested in a career in the chiropractic field, RMU is proud to offer an articulation agreement with NYCC.
This 4+3 linkage program allows you to earn both an RMU degree and a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) from NYCC in just 7 years. You'll complete four years of undergraduate study and earn your bachelor's degree from RMU before spending three years at NYCC for chiropractic school.
The articulation agreement assures your acceptance into NYCC's D.C. program provided that you graduate from RMU with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Doing so also guarantees you a $1,500 merit scholarship from NYCC. Before the end of your sophomore year at RMU, you'll submit a letter of intent to NYCC, stating your desired date of entrance to the Seneca Falls, NY, institution. You'll then apply for admission to NYCC one year before your desired entrance date, going through all normal application procedures.
