Eligibility
Full-time and regular part-time employees are enrolled in the plan on their first day of employment.
Benefit Cost
Robert Morris University pays 100% of the cost of this coverage for staff employees. Faculty contribute 20% of the premium cost.
Waiving Coverage
If a new employee waives life insurance, he/she will not be eligible to enroll in the future except during an open enrollment period or upon direct application to the insurance carrier by submitting evidence of insurability. Evidence of Insurability forms are available from Employee Benefits.
Coverage Level
For full-time staff employees, the amount of basic life and AD&D insurance is equal to 1 times their annual base salary rounded to the next $1,000; not to exceed $400,000. The amount of life insurance will be reduced by 50% on the date you attain age 70 per the life insurance policy.
For regular part-time staff employees, the amount of basic life and AD&D insurance is equal to the hourly rate of pay times 1,000 hours rounded to the next $1,000. The amount of life insurance will be reduced by 50% on the date you attain age 70 per the life insurance policy.
Full-time faculty may elect coverage up to 2 times their annual base salary rounded to the next 1,000; not to exceed $400,000. The amount of life insurance will be reduced by 50% on the date you attain age 70 per the life insurance policy.

Life Insurance Conversion Option upon termination of employment
Upon termination of employment, life insurance will be discontinued on the last day of active employment. A terminated employee can convert his/her group life insurance, without evidence of insurability, to a personal life insurance policy submitting the Prudential Life Insurance Conversion form to the life insurance company within 31 days of the termination of his/her group life insurance. The conversion form is provided to the employee upon termination.
