Your benefit elections will remain in effect for the entire plan year unless you experience a qualified family or work status change.
Examples of Qualified Status Change
Examples of these changes are Marriage, Divorce, Birth or Adoption of a Child, Student Losing Full-Time Student Status, Death of a Spouse or Child, Spouse’s Employment Begins or Ends, Switch from Part-time to Full-time or vice-versa, Leave of Absence, or Significant Change in Medical Coverage.
Employee Responsibility
You must notify Employee Benefits and complete an enrollment form indicating the change within 31 days of experiencing a qualified status change. Failure to do so will result in having to wait until the next Open Enrollment period to make any change to your benefits. There will be no exceptions to this rule as this is governed by Robert Morris University’s Section 125 Plan.
In addition to completing a new enrollment form, proof must be provided to substantiate the change. For example, a copy of a birth certificate substantiates adding a new dependent to your benefits; a copy of a divorce decree substantiates removing an ex-spouse from your coverage; a copy of a marriage certificate substantiates adding a spouse to your coverage, etc.
