School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science - Expanding Your Horizons
What is Expanding Your Horizons (EYH)? EYH is a network founded in the 1970s by a group of women scientists and mathematicians in the San Francisco Bay Area concerned about the math and science education of young women. The network has grown and spread across the nation and even has international representation. To learn more about EYH visit the EYH network homepage. One activity of the EYH network is to run conferences for junior high girls to learn about science, math and technology careers while having fun participating in hands-on workshops. Robert Morris University will host an EYH conference aimed at young women in the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades. The conference will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2008. What happens at an EYH conference? If you are a young women in the 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grade, this is for you!!! The day begins with a keynote speaker, who gets you excited and filled with anticipation for the coming day. After the keynote speaker, you will attend hands-on workshops led by women in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields. After lunch, more workshops will resume. In most workshops, you will participate in hands-on learning experiences led by women scientists, mathematicians and engineers. These role models will talk to you about what they do, and about the need to take as much math and science as possible in high school.
