Global Engagement

You can find on the following pages the things that you must do during the first few weeks after your arrival. Both F-1 and J-1 visa holders are responsbile for the things listed here.

Be sure to follow these important steps once you arrive on campus. If you have any questions or need help finding anything please do not hesitate to contact or stop by the CGE. You should check your RMU email account daily for important updates from the Center for Global Engagement.

1. Contact Us

After your arrive in the United States, please call or email the Center for Global Engagement.

2. International Student Orientation
All international and exchange students are required to attend the International Orientation. Please make note of the dates and plan accordingly.

3. Sign up for RMU Alert
Sign up for RMU Alert to get email and/or Text message (SMS) notifications about emergency information on campus. RMU Alert will notify you of important information like school closures, weather delays, etc.

4. Freedom Card
All students are required to have a Freedom Card. The first Freedom Card issued is free of charge. To obtain this card, visit the Freedom Card Office located in Revere Center. It is requested that you bring a driver’s license, passport, or another form of photo identification to the office.

5. Update Your Address
You must verify that the address RMU has of you is correct. Be sure to change any information that has changed. To do this, please vist this site and enter your username and password. Under "demographics," click on address.

The categories are as follows:

  • Permanent: Your primary home. This would be where you have come from, and where you will return. This could  be a parent's address.
  • Billing: This is where RMU will send the bill for tuition.
  • Local: Where you live while attending RMU. If you live on campus, this is your mailbox address.

6. SEVIS Appointment

After you report to RMU, it is a rewuirement of the Department of Homeland Security that you are registered as ACTIVE in the SEVIS system. Before you can be registered, you must complete the SEVIS Registration Forms in the Incoming Student Portal that you used to request to you I-20.

Failure to be registered in SEVIS will result in the automatic termination of your I-20 by the Department of Homeland Security.

7. Download the RMU App for smartphones and tablets

In addition to helping you find buildings on campus, the RMU App for your mobile phone offers a ton of useful information about RMU.

8. Attendance
Regular attendance and class participation are a major part of your grade in classes at American universities. Missing too many classes can put you at risk for failing classes, falling out of immigration status and having to leave the country. At the start of each semester, talk to your professors about their attendance policies.
