RMU's M.S. in Taxation Named a Top 10 Program

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Pittsburgh -- recently named RMU's M.S. in Taxation as one of its highest-regarded Master's in Tax (MST) programs in the United States.

The findings are based on the separate survey responses of heads of 151 corporate tax departments and 184 alumni of MST programs. Survey participants were asked to select up to five schools with master's-level tax programs they hold in the highest regard. Schools were then ranked based on percentage of votes they received from each group.

Robert Morris's program, which was started in 1979, was named one of the top 10 M.S. tax programs in the country, according to graduates of master's-level taxation programs. In this recognition, it joins other programs from the University of Southern California, Villanova University, and DePaul University, to name a few.

"Our program's strength is its emphasis on professional, practical experience wrapped around a highly technical approach to taxation," said William G. Brucker, assistant professor and director of RMU's Master's in Taxation program. "Our alumni have done very well, and we are very proud of them. We are very pleased to receive this recognition." is a part of the Tax Talent network which is the world’s largest online network for tax professionals.

"For decades we have been advising tax professionals on their careers and the discussion inevitably starts with the appropriate educational choices," said TaxTalent president Tony Santiago. "JobsInTax and the TaxTalent Network of companies are now providing these annual rankings of M.S. Tax and LLM Tax programs so that those in the field are better able to manage their own tax careers."

The M.S. in Taxation degree program at Robert Morris University provides a firm background in all of the major areas of federal and state taxation and is dedicated to preparing graduates for careers in both the public and private sectors, including public accounting, tax planning, consulting, and finance. The program has virtually a 100 percent placement rate, and alumni work for some of the nation's most prestigious corporations, including PriceWaterhouse, Deloitte, PNC Bank, BNY Mellon, Bayer, UPMC, Highmark, U.S. Steel, PPG, Alcoa, Heinz, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Ernst & Young.

Robert Morris University, founded in 1921, is a private, four-year institution with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The university offers 60 undergraduate and 20 graduate programs. An estimated 22,000 alumni live and work in western Pennsylvania.
