RMU Students Rank Fourth for Highest Number of National Media Awards

Pittsburgh -- With 13 national awards received by eight RMU students and RMU Sentry Media, Robert Morris University was ranked fourth for the highest number of awards handed out this year by the Society for Collegiate Journalists (SCJ) presents.

RMU Sentry Media is full of opportunities for students to experience a variety of journalistic platforms to enhance careers in the multimedia world. Students are able to serve as editorial staff and partake in writing, video recording, blogging, photography, filmmaking, and graphic and web design.

“I'm thrilled that RMU Sentry Media, RMU Radio and RMU-TV are being recognized nationally for the stellar work being done by our students,” says Carrie Moniot, student media/news media director.

"These awards demonstrate how diligent our students are in delivering professional-level content, whether it be for Sentry Media, RMU Radio or RMU TV,” says Anthony Moretti, director of the RMU Center for Innovative Teaching and Engaged Learning. “I enjoy seeing the pride on their faces when that hard work is recognized." 

Adding to the success of RMU media, SCJ awarded two consecutive RMU journalism students the Art Barlow Student Journalist Award. Nick Buzzelli ’15 was the 2014 recipient, and he is currently pursuing his master’s in journalism with a concentration in reporting and editing at Kent State University. The 2015 recipient Leah Fleischel ’15 is currently the social media account manager at Webpage FX in Harrisburg.
