RMU to Honor the Pittsburgh Steelers
Students will have the valuable opportunity to network and get career advice from some of the nation’s top sports executives – including graduates of RMU’s Sport Management Program, one of the top such programs in the United States.
The conference includes panel discussions on issues confronting the sports industry as well as breakout sessions for students to learn the skills they need to launch their careers. Representatives from Dick’s Sporting Goods, Spurs Entertainment, Detroit Red Wings, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the NBA, and many others will be on hand. Seventy sport management professionals and 18 colleges and universities will participate.
The RMU Sport Management Conference also features the annual induction of new members into the RMU Sport Management Hall of Fame, which will make history when it inducts, for the first time, an entire sports organization: The Pittsburgh Steelers. RMU will recognize the Steelers and the team’s owners, the Rooney Family, as one of the NFL’s most storied and successful franchises with a long record of charitable giving and community support.
Robert Morris has numerous connections to the Steelers and the Rooney family. Patricia Rooney, wife of team owner Dan Rooney, is an emeritus member of the RMU Board of Trustees, and the Rooney family has been a generous supporter of the university. Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert is a 1979 RMU graduate and a current member of the Board of Trustees, as well as a member of the Sport Management Hall of Fame.
Other inductees this year are:
- Patrice Matamoros, executive director, Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon
- Russ Yurk, director of events, USA Football
- Bryan Ross, Senior Director of Ticket Sales and Service, New Orleans Pelicans and Saints
