Business and Communication Courses

Employers need engineers who are trained in their craft. However, they also demand employees who can communicate ideas in a clear, concise and direct manner, demonstrating an understanding of business practices, teamwork and project management.

At RMU we provide students with a well-rounded education, focused on the skills of their profession combined with an understanding of the business world and professional communication tools. Communications and business courses give RMU engineering graduates an upper hand in the job market.

Freshman engineering students at RMU sometimes think that business and communications courses are a waste of time. By the time they graduate, though, these students have found out first hand the value of business and communications skills through internships. Companies value interns from RMU's engineering programs because these skills set them apart from their peers.

Students report that the communication skills program improved their ability to speak, organize their ideas and translate them into logical and coherent written materials.

A basic understanding of business practices is also a crucial component to a successful internship--and career. RMU students are also able to draw on the knowledge they gain from these courses as they prepare projects, presentations and reports in their engineering classes.
