Professional Associations

RMU's engineering students have the opportunity to join several national professional associations.

Society of Women Engineers

The Society of Women Engineers originated when small groups of women engineers and women engineering students began meeting independently in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. Nearly 50 women from these groups came together on May 27, 1950 to form the Society. The organization's four objectives are as relevant today as they were 50 years ago: to inform young women, their parents, counselors, and the public of the qualifications and achievements of women engineers and the opportunities available to them; to assist women engineers in readying themselves for a return to active work after temporary retirement; to serve as a center of information on women in the field; and to encourage women engineers to attain high levels of educational and professional achievement.

Society of Manufacturing Engineers

A chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers was established at RMU in the fall of 2000. This international organization promotes professionalism and manufacturing by giving students the opportunity to experience hands-on activities in the field of manufacturing. The society provides an opportunity for students to network with potential employers, compete in regional and national contests, tour production facilities and attend presentations pertaining to cutting edge technology.

Association for Computing Machinery

RMU has an active student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery. ACM is the world's oldest and largest educational and scientific computing society. Since 1947 the society has provided a vital forum for the exchange of information, ideas and discoveries. Today it serves a membership of computing professionals and students in more than 100 countries in all areas of industry, academia and government.

ACM provides resources that advance computing as a science and a profession, including the field's premier digital library and leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources.

The student chapter is involved in community service, assisting organizations with their computer software and hardware needs.

American Society for Engineering Education

The American Society for Engineering Education is a nonprofit organization of individuals and institutions committed to furthering education in engineering and engineering technology.

National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying

The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying is a national nonprofit organization composed of engineering and surveying licensing boards.
