Undergraduate Engineering 

An engineering degree from Robert Morris University gives you a competitive advantage as you start your career. The University offers the B.S. in Engineering (with concentrations in biomedical, industrial, mechanical, and software engineering) and the B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering. Through these two B.S. programs and as its mission,

“The Department of Engineering will graduate students prepared in specialty areas of Engineering with a contemporary industry-relevant education that is enhanced with: experiential learning in pervasive laboratories,  internships / co-op programs, skills for business success, skills for professional communication, and practice of life-long learning.”

In furthering this mission for both programs, the department pursues four Program Educational Objectives (PEO's), which are broad statements that are consonant with the departmental mission and describe the career and professional accomplishments that each program is preparing graduates to achieve. Denoting work-place achievements, the PEO's for both B.S. programs are as follows.

Objective 1. RMU will develop technically competent engineers.

RMU graduates will be recognized for their sound engineering skills.  After beginning their careers, they will have demonstrated this achievement by their ability to apply systematically the fundamental principles of science and mathematics to solve technical problems and the ability and motivation to continually adopt and appropriately apply the latest tools and technology.

Objective 2. Graduates of RMU will be hands-on practitioners of engineering.

During their RMU education, students will have had hands-on exposure to industry-standard processes, systems, and guidelines. Owing to this professionally focused education, RMU graduates will exhibit a hands-on approach to accomplishing their work.

Objective 3. RMU engineering graduates will possess basic business understanding and strong communications skills.

RMU engineering graduates will exhibit those basic business skills and strong communication skills that will enable them to collaborate effectively with industry professionals with a variety of backgrounds.  The development of these skills will help them to incorporate diverse constraints and trade-offs, within appropriate ethical and professional boundaries, in specific application areas of Engineering.

Objective 4. RMU graduates will be prepared to embrace the continuous learning necessary to practice engineering over their entire professional lifetimes.

RMU’s engineering programs will impart current engineering expertise as well as lifelong learning skills in its graduates. As a result, RMU engineering graduates will adapt effectively to both the present and future needs of their workplace and of society. This lifelong learning will take place in both formal and informal professional settings.

Learn the Industry

You'll gain first-hand experience with the tools and techniques employed in modern industry. Through an internship you'll have a chance to apply what you've learned in the workforce.

Receive Individual Attention

You won't get lost at RMU. As a freshman your basic math and science classes will likely include fewer than 25 students. By the time you reach your junior and senior years, classes of fewer than 10 students are common. Each of your professors will be willing to work one on one with you, and your adviser will know you by your first name.

Develop a Well-Rounded Set of Skills

RMU engineering students receive a solid grounding in the discipline of engineering through the program's integrated curriculum. In addition, students learn fundamental business and communications skills that give them an edge over their peers.
