The senior year is considered the students' Professional Year (Pedagogy & Practicum Model). It includes a fall term consisting of: Teaching Elementary Math, Science and Social Studies (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). In addition the students will have a two-day-per-week classroom field assignment that is highly integrated with these classes (Tuesday & Thursday). The students remain in the same classroom and move right into Student Teaching in the spring term. This gives the RMU student a complete, one-year experience in an elementary classroom that includes the all important, beginning of the school year in the fall to the end of the year testing and assessment (PSSA exams) in the spring. The students will be exposed to a far wider variety of real, teaching experiences including, committee work, school board meetings, and curriculum planning. In addition, this professional year allows for an average of six weeks of full classroom teaching. It is our belief that this model provides consistency and richness to the students' classroom experiences. The model allows for a true application of Theory into Practice while accumulating our teacher candidates to the full range of activities and responsibilities of a classroom teacher.
