• Keystone STARS - PA initiated this program several years ago to both encourage programs to improve their quality, and to recognize and reward them for that commitment. Sites may apply for, and after evaluation, receive, 1 to 4 stars (4 represents the highest standard). To see a list of participating programs, and their rating, go to: http://www.pakeys.org. Users can enter their zip code and find programs near them.
• NAEYC Accreditation In the absence of federal standards, NAEYC began an accreditation program in 1985 to recognize early care and education programs which met the very highest standards. PA programs who are NAEYC accredited are automatically eligible for a 4-star Keystone STARS rating. To find an accredited program, go to: http://www.naeyc.org/academy/search/ and enter a zip code.
