RMU WiFi Print for Mac 

Mac users on campus can now print to RMU's WiFi enabled printers with the same ease of use that Windows users have come to know and enjoy.

RMU WiFi Print for Mac 2.x requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard or higher.
It has been tested and works with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.
It has been tested and works with  with OS X 10.8 Mt. Lion *(see note at the bottom of the page).

Before downloading RMU WiFi Print for Mac 2.x, RMU IT recommends removing any previously installed RMU printers from version 1.x:

  1. Open System Preferences located in /Applications
  2. Select Print and Fax
  3. Select any previously installed RMU printer(s) and click the - button to remove them

Installation and Usage

To print wirelesslessly from a Mac, follow these instructions:

  1. Download the latest version of RMU WiFi Print for Mac from here.
  2. Double click on the zip file to extract the application.
  3. Double click on the RMU WiFi Print application.
  4. On first launch, you will see a security warning similar to the one shown below. Click Open.
  5. Click Begin
  6. Pharos Popup and the required drivers will begin installing. When Pharos Popup and the required drivers are finished installing, you will be able to click the Next button. Click the Next button.
  7. On the Printer Selection screen, select "Select Printers to Install"
  8. When the pane drops down showing the available printers, select the ones you would like to install. Click "All" to select all of the printers.
  9. You will see the table populated with your printer choices. Click Next.
  10. As the printers install, you will see the status change to either "Already installed", "Installed!", or "Error!"
    if there was an error.
  11. Click Finish. You will see a success screen unless there was an error during installation. If there was an error, you will see an error screen with instructions on how to contact the Help Desk for assistance. 
  12. Click Exit to exit the Application.

Mt. Lion users, be sure to see the note at the bottom of the page.

Printing to a Printer

When printing to RMU's WiFi printers, you will be asked to enter your RMU user ID (and ocassionally a job name). After entering both pieces of information, press Print to print your job. You will need to release the job at the print station.

Automatic Updates

The second time you open RMU WiFi Print for Mac 2.x, it will ask you if you'd like it to automatically check for updates. Select "Check Automatically" if you'd like the application to automatically check for updates on every launch. If you'd like to check for updates manually (instructions below), then choose "Don't Check".

To check for updates manually, select "Check for updates..." under the RMU WiFi Print menu in the menubar.

Updating when there is an update available

If your version is not up to date, you will see a message like the one shown below. You will be able to install the new version by clicking "Install Update". You can postpone the update by selecting "Remind Me Later". RMU IT does not recommend skipping a version.

Mt. Lion Note

Robert Morris University is a registered developer with Apple and RMU WiFi Print for Mac is code signed and ready for use with Mt. Lion. However, due to an increased printer driver permissions implementation in Mt. Lion, after running RMU WiFi Print for Mac, but before printing to a RMU Printer, Mt. Lion users should check for and install updates using Apple Software Update. To check for updates:

  1. Click the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
  2. Choose "Software Update..." which is the second item in the list.
  3. You will see updates for various printer drivers in addition to any other updates that are available.
  4. Click the "Update All" button in the App Store updates window.

After applying all updates and restarting if required, Mt. Lion users should be able to print successfully.

General Troubleshooting

Q: I'm not seeing the Popup window when attempting to print

A: Restart your computer and try again. Sometimes, due to a bug in the Pharos installer, the Pharos Popup application fails to launch in the background. If that does not work, continue reading.

Due to the same bug, ocasionally the login item is not added successfully. To resolve this, follow the steps below or contact the Help Desk or ResNet for assistance.

  1. Open Terminal.app which is located in /Applications/Utilities
  2. Copy and paste the line below into the Terminal window and press return. It should be all on one line.
    osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to make login item at end with properties {path:"/Library/Application Support/Pharos/Popup.app", hidden:true}'
  3. Log out and log back in.
