Computer screens must be locked after a period of inactivity. The recommended period of inactivity is ten minutes, and departments may want to establish their own time limits.
Why set a tighter policy?
- People in the department have access to confidential data, such as financial aid information, grades, and salaries.
- People in the department work in open areas, where others could easily see their screens.
Instructions to set the screen lock:
Method #1 - Lock your screen any time you leave your desk.
- Press ctrl+alt+del and select "Lock Workstation"
- OR
- Press the windows key

Method #2 - Set the timeout feature to lock your screen after a period of inactivity.
- Click your "Start" button
- Select "Control Panel"
- Double-click to select "Display"
- Click on the "Screen Saver" tab
- In the "Screen saver" section, set your "Wait" time to 10 minutes (or department policy), and check the box for "On resume, password protect"
- Click "OK"
