The Communicator Awards are judged and overseen by the International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA), a 450-member organization of leading professionals from various disciplines of the visual arts dedicated to embracing progress and the evolving nature of traditional and interactive media. Current IAVA membership represents a "Who's Who" of acclaimed media, advertising, and marketing firms including:  Condè Nast, Coach, Disney, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Estee Lauder, HBO, Keller Crescent, Monster.com, MTV, Polo Ralph Lauren, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Tribal DDB, Victoria’s Secret, Wired, Yahoo!, and many others.

In the Programs/News - Student division senior RMU media arts majors Christopher Walker and Michael Prutzman were awarded the Award of Excellence for their news package title “The Dinosaurs.”  The students produced, shot and edited the piece for RMU-TV’s award winning, student produced newscast “RMU-Live.” RMU-TV is available to Comcast subscribers through Video On Demand and in the Moon Township area on Comcast channel 98.

“It is such a great honor to have been chosen as a recipient of this award. To be ranked alongside professionals as well as so many talented individuals in the academic world is truly humbling,” said Walker.

RMU-Radio also garnered an Award of Excellence for their piece titled “What We Play” in the Schools/Colleges/Universities category. RMU accounting graduate Dan Murtha, one of the founding members of RMU-Radio, produced the radio segment.

“Winning this award in the first year that RMURadio was conceived clearly demonstrates the quality educational experience you can obtain at RMU," said Murtha.
