Meet Gina McGrath of the YWCA of Westmoreland County!

TNotes:  What is your job title?
GM:  Director of Technology

TNotes:  How did you get into working in nonprofit technology?
GM:  I read an article in the newspaper featuring the new computer lab at the YWCA in Greensburg and I called to inquire if they needed an instructor.  I was given an interview and hired. My part time position soon led to full time as the Director of Technology.

TNotes:  What do you like best about dealing with your organization’s technology?
GM:  I love my job because I never know what my day holds for me. Every day can be a challenge dealing with technology, ranging from server to user issues.

TNotes:  What do you least like about dealing with your organization’s technology?
GM:  We do not always have the funds for the new equipment or upgrades that are needed.

TNotes:  What is your big dream for technology in your organization?
GM:  That funding is available so we can continue the outstanding programs that we offer, such as trainings for other nonprofits in our area, computer classes, and our TechGYRLS robotics program.

TNotes:  How do you manage your technology role within your organization?
GM:  Good time management, patience, and multi-tasking!

TNotes:  You are a regular attendee at one of the Bayer Center’s Bagels & Bytes group – what do you get from going to those meetings?
GM:  I coordinate the Westmoreland County’s Bagels and Bytes Group. We meet at 8am, the second Tuesday of each month at Eat ‘n Park (across the highway from Westmoreland Mall). The knowledge that we share and the network that we have created is invaluable to the accidental and professional nonprofit techies that are in our group.

TNotes:  Any words of advice or encouragement for other nonprofit techies out there?
GM:  I think it is imperative that all nonprofit techies support each other. We are a crucial network of knowledge that is important to our nonprofits.
