Island Storm Womens Hockey

The 2012-13 Island Storm Just Received a Makeover!

The Island Storm program is designed to meet the needs of women who are beginners or recreational skaters looking to break into the game of hockey; or those that just want to refine their skating and hockey skills.

The Island Storm program has recieved a facelift for the 2012-13 season.  We are sure you will agree that the changes will be a welcome surprise.  Participants will still be able to come to the rink each week and enjoy a (60) minute, no pressure atmosphere designed to help you achieve each of your own personal hockey goals.  Starting this season however, participants will be learning from professional hockey coaches 40 years of coaching experience combined.

Both Marianne Watkins and Matt Nicholson have impressive coaching resumes working with some of the games biggest names and brightest stars of tomorrow, but they also have an equal amount of experience working with they "everyday players" including both men and women, beginner through intermediate.  We believe you will find that Marianne and Matt both love to teach the game, and are eager to share their knowledge with you with a combined goal to help you achieve yours.

Each week Marianne will engage participants with hockey specific skating exercises and drills to give players a better understanding of balance, use of edges, stride development, stopping, etc.  Additionally, Matt will be on hand to work on fundamental hockey skills including stick handling, passing, shooting and much more.  All skill sets will be further enhanced through the use of stations and small area games.
