Private Instruction 

 

Private hockey instruction is provided exclusively by qualified instructors approved by the RMU Hockey Academy.   Our instructors are experienced professionals that offer all levels of instruction based on your specific needs and goals.

Private hockey instruction allows you the opportunity and flexibility to work on all areas of the game including skating, shooting, passing stickhandling, game strategy, etc, in a 1 on 1 or small group setting.

To schedule a private lesson, refer to the list of private instructors and contact the instructor directly. Please note that instructors set their own lesson schedules based on their availability, and that of the RMU Island Sports Center.  In general, private lesson time is Monday – Friday with time ranging from 3:15 PM – 4:45 PM

Marianne Watkins  - NOW BOOKED THROUGH OCTOBER 2011

Marianne Watkins is the Hockey Skating Director for the RMU Sports Center and the RMU Hockey Academy.  One of the most sought after skating coaches in hockey, Watkins has worked with many of the games top prospects.  Players from the Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple leafs, Florida Panthers, and Anaheim Ducks have all utilized her expertise in developing their skating skills.  Currently, she is working with the Pittsburgh Penguins top prospects from their AHL organization, the Wilkes-Barre Penguins.

She was featured in Paul Coffey’s instructional video, “Skate like a Pro” and on “The Hockey Show” (ESPM/TSN) and was the exclusive skating coach for Wayne Gretzky’s Future Stars camps.  Recognized as one of the top instructors in her field she has been a presenter at the International Hockey Skating Symposium and USA Hockey coaching clinics.

Blaine Buterbaugh

Blaine Buterbaugh is the Assistant Hockey Director for The RMU Island Sports Center as well as Director of Camps and Clinics for the RMU Hockey Academy.  Buterbaugh has spent the last 5 seasons as an assistant coach with the RMU Women’s program.  He earned his master’s level coaching accreditation through USA Hockey in 2009.

Prior to his career in coaching, Buterbaugh played collegiate hockey with the ACHA Division I Robert Morris University Colonials.

Scott Spencer

Scott Spencer is entering his 8th year of coaching at the collegiate level.  During the past 5 seasons Spencer has been an assistant coach with the RMU Women’s program.  Prior to RMU he had previously served as an assistant at Bemidji State University from 2003-06, as well as an assistant coach for the North Iowa Outlaws of the North American Hockey League in the 2005-06 season. 

Prior to his career in coaching, Spencer played four years of collegiate hockey with the ACHA Division I Minot State Beavers.

Mark Workman

Mark Workman is entering his 16th year of coaching at the collegiate level.  He is going into his 2nd year as an assistant with the RMU men's team.  Prior to coming to RMU he spent six years as an Assistant Coach Brown University.  Of his 16 years of coaching experience, six of them were spent as a Head Coach for his alma mater The College of St. Scholastica a DIII school in Duluth, MN.  He also has spent the past nine summers coaching at the USA Hockey National Development camps and is a certified USA Hockey Level 4 Coach.

Matt Nicholson

Matt Nicholson is entering his 4th year of coaching at the collegiate level; he is going into his 2nd year as an assistant coach with the RMU Men’s team.  Prior to coming to RMU he spent 2 seasons at Adrian College.

Prior to his career in coaching, Nicholson played 4 years collegiate hockey for Colgate University.  He then participated in the Phoenix Coyote’s rookie camp before playing for Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and the Youngstown Steelhounds both of the Central Hockey League (CHL).

Logan Bittle

Logan Bittle is entering his first year coaching at the collegiate level as an assistant coach with the RMU Women’s team.  He was a member of the RMU men's inaugural team in 2004-05 and played four years for the Colonials. After graduation, Bittle continued his hockey career in the professional ranks playing for both the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL and the New Jersey Rockhoppers of the Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL).

Chad Davis

Chad Davis is entering his 4th year of coaching at the collegiate level; his first as an assistant coach with the RMU Men’s program.  Prior to coming to RMU he spent 3 years as a head coach at Eastern Michigan, (ACHA).  He also served as an evaluator for the USA Hockey world University Games.

Prior to his career in coaching Davis appeared in 52 games at American International before playing professionally for the Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League.

Inline Hockey

Brian Jasenak

Brian Jasenak is the Youth Inline Coordinator for the RMU Island Sports Center. His playing experiences include 10 years of ice and inline hockey, in addition to playing college inline hockey for the University of Pittsburgh and Robert Morris University. Brian has instructed children, elementary through middle school ages over the past 3 years working within the Youth Inline Programs offered at the Island Sports Center. He is also the founder and former president of Montour Inline Hockey including 2 years of varsity level coaching with one varsity championship.
