Moon Township, Pa. – WTAE-TV anchor Andrew Stockey will be the inaugural speaker at Robert Morris University’s new Diversity Speaker Series on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Stockey’s talk gets underway at noon in the Rogal Chapel at RMU’s Moon Township campus.
Stockey anchors WTAE’s weekday morning newscasts at 5 and 6 a.m. Previously, he was the station’s sports director, and he has won several broadcasting awards, including an Emmy and best sportscast and best sports play-by-play awards from the Pennsylvania Associated Press.
The goal of the Diversity Speaker Series is to engage the RMU community in a discussion of issues from new and different perspectives, said Paul Spradley, the University’s assistant director for student life and multicultural affairs.

“There are students who have never had to care about diversity, and this is giving them the opportunity to experience it and talk about what it means and why it is important,” said Spradley.
The other speakers in the line-up are: • Joyce A. Bender, CEO and founder of Bender Consulting Services Inc., which provides services and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. She will speak at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the Rogal Chapel.
• Paul Rusesabagina, the courageous humanitarian portrayed in the film “Hotel Rwanda,” will speak Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Rogal Chapel. The time for his talk will be determined. Rusesabagina will also speak at 8 p.m. at Heinz Hall in downtown Pittsburgh as part of the RMU Pittsburgh Speakers Series.
• The Pittsburgh chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) will present a panel discussion about sexual orientation and gender identity at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, in the Rogal Chapel. |

• Ola R. Jackson, an RMU alumna and member of the University’s Board of Trustees, is the founder of OWN: Onyx Woman Network, a communications company that targets women of color. She will speak at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, in the International Suite in Sewall Center.
• Norma Elena Gonzalez, the Latin affairs coordinator and Media Arts internship coordinator at RMU, is an advocate and activist in the Latin-American community in the United States and abroad. She will speak at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in the International Suite in Sewall Center.
